What We Do
Geoscience is essential to solving the challenges of our time—from managing resources to addressing climate change and protecting our environment. At CfGS, we apply geoscience through education, research, advocacy, and community engagement to build a more resilient and sustainable future.
Our Focus Areas
Awareness & Public Engagement
Raise awareness of geoscience and its role in national development
Education & Capacity Building
Train and mentor students and professionals in the fields of geoscience
Applied Research & Policy Support
Conduct research to support policy and advocacy
Geotourism & Heritage
Promoting Ghana’s geological landmarks and empowering communities through sustainable geotourism.
Professional development in geoscience
Training, mentorship, and capacity-building programs to support students, early-career professionals, and practitioners in geoscience.
Consultancy
Water resource management, Environmental geochemistry, climate change vulnerability and adaptability, exploration geochemistry, geology, Earth hazards monitoring and mitigation, geoscience curriculum development
Strategic Projects & Initiatives
CfGS is rolling out key programs and activities under its Phase 1 strategy. Some are already underway, while others are planned and being developed as part of the center’s foundational growth.
These projects are rooted in education, advocacy, and public engagement, and directly support the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
1. International Earth Science Week (Ongoing)
Outreach programs during October each year to engage schools and communities on the importance of geoscience. Activities include media campaigns, exhibitions, and public lectures supporting SDGs 1, 4, 12, and 13.
2. Earth Science Clubs Initiative (In Development)
Designed to establish and support Earth Science Clubs in senior high schools across Ghana. These clubs will engage students through field trips, science competitions, and mentorship to cultivate future geoscientists.
3. STEM Advancement for Girls (In Development)
A mentorship and skills-building initiative to encourage female participation in geoscience. Includes hands-on learning, training programs, and potential scholarships, in partnership with women-led STEM organizations (SDG 5).
4. Geotourism Development (In Development)
This project aims to identify and promote Ghana’s geoheritage sites, empowering local communities through sustainable tourism. CfGS plans to collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism and local partners for implementation (SDGs 1, 8, 11 & 12).
5. Public Engagement & Media Outreach (Ongoing)
CfGS is actively creating engaging digital content—articles, videos, and infographics—to promote geoscience awareness. Partnerships with media outlets are being developed to foster public discussion on environmental sustainability and policy.
Future Focus Areas
As CfGS grows, we are preparing to expand into advanced research, policy engagement, infrastructure development, and global collaboration. These upcoming priorities will strengthen our impact and position Ghana as a leader in geoscience innovation.
